Laika's Story

Laika's Operation Went Well

Laika Shoko is a 3-year old girl from Port Elizabeth who was diagnosed in 2019 with bilateral profound hearing loss. Due to the degree of Laika's hearing loss, conventional hearing aids are not a solution for her condition and she urgently needs a cochlear implant, which will connect her to the outside world and unlock her potential. After being approached by the family, Joy of Hearing supported the initiative to raise funds for her operation, which took place on 14 December 2020. Everything went well and the device was switched on in January 2021. Laika is doing very well and is receiving ongoing speech therapy. Please support us to support her and many other children like her.

Thanks,
